What Is Pure CBD Tincture and How Does It Compare to Other CBD Products?

Do you know what Dakota Johnson, Mandy Moore, and Olivia Wilde have in common? Well, aside from being beautiful, they all swear by CBD-infused products. CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound (cannabinoid) derived from both marijuana and hemp plants. Unlike THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which is another popular cannabinoid, CBD won't get you high. It's worth noting that it's not only beauty products with CBD as their star ingredient. There are all sorts of CBD products available nowadays, including CBD for pets, CBD capsules, CBD edibles, and so on. Here, we'll talk about pure CBD tincture and how it differs from other CBD product types.

What Is Pure CBD Tincture?

Tinctures are concentrated liquid herbal extracts. To make pure CBD tincture, CBD-rich hemp flowers are soaked in high-proof grain alcohol for weeks. Some DIY recipes use vinegar or glycerin instead of alcohol. But most prefer to use alcohol because of how effective it is in pulling out cannabinoids and terpenes. After the steeping period, the mixture will undergo straining. This then leaves behind the concentrated liquid. Keep in mind that CBD tinctures are often mixed with orange or peppermint oil to mask the super bitter taste. If you're buying a CBD tincture online, make sure it doesn't contain more than 0.3% of THC. Otherwise, it's considered a marijuana product and may not be legal in your state.

CBD Tincture vs. CBD Oil

Like CBD tinctures, CBD oils contain a potent amount of cannabidiol. This is why some people use the terms 'CBD oil' and 'CBD tincture' interchangeably. What you need to remember though is that the CBD in CBD oil is suspended in an inert oil solution. There are different ways to produce CBD oil. But the best method involves temperature-controlled CO2 extraction. This process leaves behind a pure, distilled form of CBD. Now, the CBD oil produced this way is very versatile. You can consume in different ways. You can cook with it, take it neat as an oral supplement, or add it to foods and beverages. You can even vape it if you want. Meanwhile, CBD tincture is best when you consume it sublingually (under the tongue). It works faster than edibles. But you should never ever vape it. Don't forget alcohol is the most common solvent for CBD tinctures. Alcohol is flammable and thus, a fire hazard. And even if the CBD tincture you're vaping doesn't catch on fire, the last thing you want is to inhale alcohol straight into your lungs.

How to Take CBD Products

No matter what CBD product you opt to try, the important thing is to use them as intended. Follow the right dosage (details here), and make sure to buy only high-quality CBD products. If you want to be extra sure, consult your physician first. He or she will know your medical history and would know best how your body will react to CBD products. Now, if you don't have an existing medical condition and your doctor gives you the go-ahead to try CBD products, always start with the lowest dose. Watch the effects on your body, and adjust the dose if needed.
