Dabbing on the Haters – Here’s How to Dab Cannabis Concentrate

Do you remember brick weed? Well, cannabis has substantially improved in quality.

Growing technology helps breed the strongest cannabis strains, even strains specifically used for medicinal purposes. This technology also created more ways to consume cannabis.

One of the most popular and modern ways to consume cannabis is consuming cannabis concentrate, also called dabbing. Cannabis concentrate is extracted cannabinoids, specifically the psychoactive THC.

Dabbing not only induces a more potent high but also gives a clear-headed and energetic high. This is why so many cannabis consumers prefer this method over traditional smoking methods.

Is this your first time dabbing? Don’t look like a dweeb! Here’s how to dab.

What You Need

There are two main ways to dab:

  • The traditional way (we’ll get more into that in a minute)
  • Dab pen

Many cannabis consumers are switching to a dab pen. These look like e-cigarette vaporizers, except they’re created specifically for cannabis concentrate. Some pens can even burn dry herb and some can also be used to vape e-liquid.

Dab pens are easy to use and discreet. You get the same high as you would when using the traditional method.

But the traditional method is tried and true. Here’s how to consume concentrate this way.

The Traditional Dabbing Method

Here are the materials you’ll need:

  • A water pipe
  • Cannabis extract
  • Dome
  • Nail
  • Dabber
  • Torch

All of this sounds like a lot, right? Fortunately, you can buy all of these materials together.

How to Dab

Are you ready to get started dabbing? Here’s what to do.

Using the Traditional Method

With the nail in the water pipe, aim your torch at the nail. Heat the nail until it turns red.

Place the glass dome over the nail. Do this between 10 and 45 seconds. Put some concentrate on your dabber. Take the dabber and put the concentrate on the nail, while keeping the dome over the nail.

Smoke will come out from under the dome. Start inhaling.

Necessary warning: the nail and dome will obviously be extremely hot. Wait before applying the concentrate to the nail. And don’t actually touch anything in the process!

Dome-Less Nails

Some rigs have dome-less nails. Instead of placing a glass dome over the nail, you place the nail into a separate piece. The vapor comes out of a separate hole where you inhale.

Each dome-less rig is different. Follow the instructions or contact the manufacturer with any questions.

The Dab Pen Method

Does the traditional method sound extremely complex and a little outdated? You can simplify the process by using a dab pen. Here’s what you need:

  • Pen
  • Concentrate
  • Dabber

Unscrew the pen. You will find a coil. Take the dabber and pick up some concentrate. Place the concentrate on the coil. Close the pen and turn it on.

Heat up the coil — keep your finger on the button for a few seconds. Inhale through the mouthpiece.

The directions were kind of vague, right? There’s a reason for that. There’s a myriad of dabbing pens out there. Each has its own specifications and directions.

Most pens unscrew at the top to access the coil. Many pens also have one button that both turns on the pen and burns the coil.

The number of times you press the button determines the function — for example, press the button twice to turn it on or off and hold down the button once to turn on the coil.

Are you confused about how your pen works? You can contact your pen’s manufacturer and ask for further clarification.

Making Edibles

You can also use your concentrates to bake or cook with to make edibles. First, you need to make sure your concentrate is active through a process called decarboxylation.

After the decarb process, you can infuse your concentrate with butter or oil to bake all kinds of edibles.

Can You Dab Using Other Methods?

If you’re a seasoned stoner, you know there are a million and one ways to smoke marijuana. But why are we only listing two dabbing methods?

These are just the two most effective methods. You can dab other ways. Here are a few other popular methods.

Blunts and Joints

If you’re a blunt person, you can smoke concentrate joints and blunts. Grind your dry herb and place it in the wrap like you would normally. Take small pieces of concentrate and mix it in the herb. Roll the wrap and light the blunt.

Keep in mind, it’s best to use sticky wax as opposed to shatter (or hard wax) for this purpose. That’s because shatter is difficult to burn in the blunt.

Spoon Pipe

Similarly to using a blunt or joint, you can take sticky wax mixed with dry herb and smoke it in a spoon pipe. Pack the bowl with the marijuana plant and wax. Light it normally with the lighter. Hold the carb, inhale, pull the carb and exhale.

Additional Dabbing Tips to Know

If you’re new to dabbing, don’t feel bad if you can’t get it down right away. Practice makes perfect! But the seasoned experts have a few tips for the beginners. Here’s helpful advice to know.

Finding the Best Type of Concentrate

There are several types of cannabis concentrate. The most common types include:

  • Wax
  • Shatter
  • Budder
  • Crumble
  • Live rosin
  • Live resin
  • Sugar
  • Sugar wax

Why are there different types? It all has to do with the cannabis extraction method.

Everyone has a specific preference. If you’re unsure which one is best for you, try them all and discover your favorite.

How Much Oil or Wax to Dab?

Cannabis concentrate is more potent than flower. When we say you only need a crumb-sized amount, you truly only need a crumb-sized amount.

Start with a tiny speck of concentrate. Take a hit or two and wait a few minutes. If you’re not high or aren’t super high, do more. It’s best to take it easy rather than go too hard and get “too high.”

Time to Dab!

Dabbing is one of the best ways to consume cannabis. Concentrates are more potent than dry herb and you can more for your money. Hopefully, this guide taught you how to dab.
